Re. Did the 1918 flu pandemic cause a baby boom two years later, in 1920 Europe ?

What I missed in the discussion was that a large number of males were away fighting, or in case of neutrality, were conscripted and patrolling/protecting borders etc. These men did not hold ordinary jobs, did not have regular lives. I propose that women held off - marriage and/or having children. When the war was over and men returned (alas many did not) there must have been a lot of rejoicing - if you get my drift.

A little bit late here but, interesting to look at the contrast between the 1960s/1970s and the 2000+ US death plots. By and large progress has been made. It’s difficult to see too much effect of the Vietnam War in the US data. Traffic accidents are a success story. Rising maternal death rates are concerning though still well below rates in the 60s which were already dropping sharply before the 1973 Roe v Wade decision.
